Have You Ever Wondered Why People Put Carpet in Bathrooms?

Have you ever walked into a home and noticed that there was carpet in the bathroom? It might be a foreign concept for most of us, as the majority of homeowners choose tile or vinyl for their bathroom flooring. Yet carpeted bathrooms are not as uncommon as you may think. So..why do they put carpet in bathrooms?

In a recent Houzz survey, 38% of respondents said they plan to carpet their master bedroom, but having that material in your bathroom may seem a little strange. However, there are actually many benefits to installing carpet in a bathroom. These benefits also come with a few cons as well, though. If you’re trying to decide if this is the best option for your bathroom or not, keep on reading for a few pros and cons.
Pros of Bathroom Carpeting

The carpeting in a bathroom actually has a few benefits. If you have kids that are constantly taking baths and running in from your bedroom to the bathroom, you don’t have to worry about them slipping and falling on wet tile. You can plop them right out of the shower or tub and get them from your bathroom to their beds safely. Carpeting is also pretty warm to the touch, so if you dread hopping out of the shower on a cold winter’s day after soaking in (probably) steaming hot water for the last 30 minutes, this could be your answer. Your feet aren’t going to be cold after coming out of such a warm space, and you’ll probably feel a lot better about exiting the water.

Carpet in the bathroom also looks pretty luxurious. Slap a new coat of paint on your walls and keep the carpet for a fresh, rich look. You can pick carpeting that is stain-resistant and better quality to ensure it stays in good working order. If you don’t trust the carpet to stay stain-free, you can always place some bath mats near the areas that are stain-prone. As a rule, you should plan on having your carpet professionally cleaned at least once a year to keep everything fresh.

Cons of Bathroom Carpeting

There aren’t either many cons to bathroom carpeting, but the most common one is the ick-factor if the carpet isn’t cleaned properly. Since the carpet will likely be wall-to-wall, it will probably also be wall-to-toilet-to-wall. It’s no secret that there’s probably some pretty gross stuff hanging around near the toilet, and the carpet is going to latch onto that gunk and keep it there. The same goes for the area around the sink or trash can. You may choose to lay mats around these areas like you might have used to prevent stains, but this is definitely a major con.

Overall, while carpeting in the bathroom may seem weird, carpet installation is actually not a bad idea. Are you going to put carpeting in your bathroom? If you choose to install it, reach out to your local carpet sales and installation company for assistance.
